Jefferson Law Center is a rapidly growing plaintiff-side medical malpractice and catastrophic injury law firm seeking one to two Associate Attorneys to join our litigation team immediately.For more than 35 years, our firm has represented individuals and families whose lives have been forever changed by medical negligence. We prepare every case as though it will proceed to trial, combining meticulous preparation with passionate advocacy to achieve justice for our clients.
Our firm is intentionally collaborative. Currently consisting of two attorneys and three paralegals, we are expanding to meet the demands of our growing caseload while maintaining the close-knit, team-oriented culture that defines Jefferson Law Center.
Located in the heart of the Nautical Mile on Jefferson Avenue in St. Clair Shores, our mission is rooted in defending the Seventh Amendment and preserving every individual's constitutional right to seek justice.
This is a full-time, on-site position based in our St. Clair Shores office.
What You'll Do:
Unlike many firms where young attorneys spend years performing document review, our associates receive meaningful responsibility and hands-on litigation experience from the beginning of their careers.
- Working alongside experienced trial attorneys, you will assist with every stage of complex medical malpractice and catastrophic injury litigation, including:
- Conducting pre-suit investigations and evaluating potential claims.
- Investigating the medical and factual issues underlying complex malpractice, birth injury, and catastrophic injury cases.
- Drafting Notices of Intent, complaints, pleadings, motions, briefs, affidavits, discovery requests and responses, and appellate filings.
- Conducting legal, medical, and scientific research to support litigation strategy.
- Reviewing, analyzing, and summarizing medical records, deposition transcripts, and discovery materials.
- Preparing case evaluation summaries, mediation materials, and settlement demand packages.
- Preparing for and conducting depositions of parties, witnesses, treating providers, and expert witnesses.
- Collaborating with nationally recognized medical experts throughout the litigation process.
- Meeting with clients, healthcare professionals, and expert witnesses to develop case strategy.
- Appearing in Michigan state and federal courts for hearings, motion practice, and other proceedings.
- Assisting with trial preparation, including exhibit organization, witness preparation, and courtroom presentation.
- Maintaining organized electronic and physical case files through the firm's case management system.
- Participating in firm meetings, strategic discussions, and occasional marketing initiatives.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- 0–5 years of litigation experience preferred (hands-on training and mentorship will be provided for the right candidate).
- Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Admission to the State Bar of Michigan.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze complex medical records and medical literature.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassion and professionalism when working with clients experiencing traumatic circumstances.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a small litigation team.
- Experience with Clio or similar case management software is a plus, but not required.

Work Schedule:
- Monday through Friday
- 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Additional hours may be required depending on litigation demands.
