Description:
A respected regional law firm is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join its growing litigation group, focusing on medical malpractice defense in its Loudoun County, VA office. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, superior writing skills, an interest in medical malpractice litigation, and an active VA bar license or be waiting for VA bar results. Experience of 1-4 years or a judicial clerkship is a plus. Excellent compensation, benefits, work-life balance and a friendly office environment. As an associate attorney, you will gain nearly immediate experience in preparing for and appearing at trial, working on appellate briefs, drafting substantive pleadings, and arguing motions in court hearings.Key Responsibilities:
The Associate Attorney will play an active role in all phases of litigation, including but not limited to:
- Managing and supporting a caseload of medical malpractice defense matters
- Conducting legal research and drafting pleadings, motions, and memoranda
- Participating in and taking depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts
- Preparing and responding to written discovery
- Assisting with expert witness development and trial strategy
- Attending court appearances, hearings, and trials as appropriate
- Collaborating with senior attorneys and clients to develop case strategies
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in Virginia (required)
- 1-4 years of litigation experience, preferably in medical malpractice or civil defense
- Demonstrated experience with depositions, discovery, and motion practice
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Trial or courtroom experience
- Exposure to expert witness coordination and case development
- Strong interpersonal and client communication skills
- Commitment to professional growth and advancement within the firm
