We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our established and respected Traverse City, Michigan law firm. Our firm was founded nearly five decades ago and offers services across a range of practice areas including civil litigation, business organizations and transactions, real estate transactions, estate planning, probate and trust administration, and employment law. The ideal candidate will be articulate and hardworking and have a minimum of 3 years of litigation experience. This position offers the opportunity to learn from experienced attorneys while handling your own case load. There is room for growth within the firm.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage litigation cases from inception to trial.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support case preparation and strategy development.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Oversee discovery processes, including taking and defending depositions.
  • Prepare for and represent clients in trials and other court proceedings.
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients.
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding case updates and legal options.
  • Maintain organized case files and ensure timely follow-up on all legal matters.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on complex cases.
  • Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations relevant to practice areas.

Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-approved law school with strong academic credentials.
  • Active admission to the Michigan Bar in good standing.
  • At least 3 years of litigation experience is preferred.
  • Strong work ethic and a proactive approach to handling new projects and responsibilities.
  • Excellent legal research and writing capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Ability to manage complex caseloads and multiple priorities professionally and efficiently.
  • Negotiation and communication skills that facilitate effective interactions with clients and other legal professionals.
