Description:

The Goodell Law Firm, a San Francisco-based civil litigation firm specializing in real estate, wrongful foreclosure, mortgage servicing, and consumer protection litigation, is seeking a motivated and talented Associate Attorney with 0–2 years of experience to join our growing practice.

We specifically encourage applications from recent law school graduates who just received their July 2026 California Bar Exam results, including those awaiting formal admission to the State Bar, as well as attorneys with up to one year of experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious attorney who wants to develop strong litigation skills, receive direct mentorship from an experienced trial attorney, and assume meaningful responsibility early in their legal career.

About our Firm:
The Goodell Law Firm is a plaintiff-side litigation practice representing homeowners, borrowers, and consumers in complex disputes involving wrongful foreclosure, mortgage servicing misconduct, real estate transactions, and consumer protection laws.

Founded in 2010, the firm has successfully obtained more than 40 injunctions stopping foreclosures and evictions and has extensive experience litigating cases in California state and federal courts, including trials and appeals.

We are a small, dedicated litigation team handling challenging and consequential cases. Unlike positions at larger firms where junior attorneys may spend years performing narrowly defined assignments, our associates have opportunities to participate directly in substantive litigation from the beginning.

Responsibilities:
  • Draft complaints, motions, oppositions, briefs, and other litigation documents.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis concerning complex legal and factual issues.
  • Draft and respond to written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
  • Assist with depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation.
  • Analyze evidence, loan documents, real estate records, and other case materials.
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
  • Collaborate directly with the firm's principal attorney on litigation strategy and case development.
  • Assume increasing responsibility for managing cases, conducting depositions, and making court appearances as experience and skills develop.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California State Bar, or recent passage of the California Bar Exam with admission pending.
  • 0–2 years of attorney experience. Newly admitted attorneys and recent bar passers are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and a commitment to producing high-quality legal work.
  • Genuine interest in civil litigation and a desire to develop into an accomplished litigation attorney.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small legal team.
  • Prior experience in civil litigation, including law clerk positions, internships, or judicial externships, is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in real estate, foreclosure, mortgage servicing, or consumer protection litigation is helpful but not necessary.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Base Salary: $100,000–$120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Newly admitted attorneys should generally expect a starting salary of $100,000, with higher compensation reserved for candidates with particularly strong and relevant litigation experience.
  • Annual Bonus Opportunity: Eligibility for a discretionary performance-based bonus of up to $15,000 following the first year of employment, based on individual performance, contributions to the firm, and the firm's overall financial performance. Bonuses are not guaranteed.
  • Direct mentorship and training from an attorney with approximately 17 years of civil litigation experience.
  • Opportunities for meaningful courtroom, deposition, and trial experience.
  • Substantive involvement in complex litigation matters from the outset.
  • Significant opportunities for professional growth, increased responsibility, and advancement.
  • A collegial, collaborative small-firm working environment.

Why Join The Goodell Law Firm?

For a newly admitted attorney interested in becoming a skilled litigator, the opportunity to obtain meaningful experience early in one's career is invaluable.

At The Goodell Law Firm, you will not simply conduct research or review documents. You will work on active cases involving significant legal issues, participate in developing litigation strategy, draft substantive court filings, and have opportunities to gain practical courtroom and deposition experience.

We are looking for someone who is intellectually curious, hardworking, eager to learn, and enthusiastic about building a career in civil litigation.
