We are rapidly growing and seeking a highly motivated criminal defense attorney to handle their own robust caseload, which includes arraignments, pre-trial readiness conferences, preliminary hearings, pre-trial motions, sentencing hearings, probation revocations, TRO hearings/bench trials, jury trials, etc.
The ideal candidate is confident in the courtroom and able to think quickly on his/her feet. The idealA candidate should also have a minimum of two years of experience handling both misdemeanors and low-level felonies from start to finish. - Effectively litigate pre-trial hearings and motions (e.g., preliminary hearings, PC 1538.5 motions, PC 995 motions, etc.) and jury trials
- Negotiate potential negotiated dispositions or plea bargains concerning both misdemeanors and lower-level felonies from beginning to end
- You will be expected to take responsibility for a client's case – conduct client meetings and recommend strategies; communicate with prosecutors, witnesses, and experts; ensure accurate and timely filings; attend hearings, and delegate work to paralegals, law clerks, and legal assistants to monitor their work
- Defend clients in administrative per se hearings for DUI cases
- Defend against and/or prosecute temporary restraining order hearings
- Perform legal research, draft briefs, legal pleadings, correspondence, motions, etc.
- Prepare for and conduct both jury and bench trials
- Argue motions in court on behalf of clients during legal proceedings
Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive to various courthouses in Southern
- California for cases
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of prior criminal law experience
- Must be an active member and have no disciplinary record with the California State Bar
- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required
- Prior criminal jury trial experience is preferred
- Successful completion of accredited law school with a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree
- Decision-making, public speaking, problem-solving, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills, and critical thinking are a must
- Advanced computer skills working with legal research programs (Westlaw and Lexis) required
- Must be comfortable and confident in the courtroom, and not fearful of going to trial if necessary
- Able to work independently while handling multiple files
- This position requires an attorney who can confidently and competently handle a large caseload
