Schaffer & Associates, a Johnson County, Kansas litigation firm in existence since 1999, specializes in delivering counsel to large and small insurers and their insureds. We currently seek an associate attorney with 1–7 years of experience with a strong desire to develop their career as a litigator defending clients in a variety of legal actions. Licensure in Kansas and Missouri preferred. Full benefits include employee health insurance with HSA, long-term disability, and 401K with profit-sharing.Objectives of this role
- Become well versed in insurance and personal injury law in Kansas and Missouri
- Write succinct and persuasive motions and briefs in district and federal courts
- Maintain a regular schedule of hearings, court appearances, depositions and mediations
Responsibilities:
- Draft and respond to motions and briefs
- Maintain consistent client contact concerning case development
- Perform legal research
- Conduct depositions of parties, witnesses and experts
- Attend court for hearings, pre-trial conferences and trial
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Licensure in both Kansas or Missouri preferred
- Good writing skills
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work independently and efficiently to maintain a case load and meet deadlines
