We are looking for an Associate Attorney who wants to build a career in criminal defense, gain meaningful courtroom experience, and be part of a team that takes pride in standing up for our clients.What You'll Do:
As an Associate Attorney at Whiddon Criminal Defense, you will play an active role in defending clients and supporting the litigation process from start to finish.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting legal research using Westlaw and LexisNexis
- Drafting motions, pleadings, briefs, and legal memoranda
- Preparing cases for hearings, negotiations, and trial
- Reviewing discovery, police reports, and evidence
- Communicating with clients regarding case updates and legal strategy
- Appearing in court for hearings and procedural matters
- Assisting in the development of defense strategies
- Collaborating with attorneys and staff to move cases forward efficiently
- Maintaining organized case files and ensuring deadlines are met
What We're Looking For:
The ideal candidate is motivated, confident in court, and passionate about defending clients.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law or eligible for admission in the relevant jurisdiction
- Strong legal research and writing abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills
Preferred but not required:
- Criminal law or litigation experience
- Courtroom or hearing experience
- Familiarity with criminal procedure and evidence
- Work directly on criminal defense cases that make a real impact
