Tanis Schultz is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our energetic, client-focused law firm in downtown Grand Rapids. This is an excellent opportunity for a newly licensed attorney or an attorney with one to three years of experience who wants meaningful courtroom experience and exposure to multiple areas of law.

Our firm represents clients in a variety of matters, including workers' compensation, personal injury, criminal defense, and Social Security disability. Candidates with litigation experience are preferred, but we are also willing to consider a driven, newly licensed attorney who is eager to learn and grow within the firm.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a diverse caseload with support from the firm's attorneys and staff
  • Meet with clients and maintain clear, timely communication throughout their cases
  • Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, correspondence, and other legal documents
  • Attend hearings, conferences, depositions, mediations, and court proceedings
  • Travel to courts, administrative offices, and other locations throughout Michigan as required
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel and other parties
  • Assist with case strategy, discovery, trial preparation, and litigation
  • Track deadlines and maintain organized, accurate case files
  • Help develop new client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of the firm

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Active Michigan Bar license and good standing, or eligibility for admission with results pending
  • Newly licensed attorneys and candidates with one to three years of experience are encouraged to apply
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Comfortable appearing in court and advocating on behalf of clients
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout Michigan for court appearances, hearings, client meetings, and other case-related responsibilities
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
  • Ability to manage multiple matters, priorities, and deadlines
  • Professional, dependable, organized, and attentive to detail
  • A client-focused approach and a desire to provide high-quality legal representation
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • An existing book of business is welcome but is not required
