Your part: The ideal applicant must be detail-oriented, organized, accurate, have great customer service skills and ready to play an important role in the business. Applicants with a minimum of 1 year of civil law or other legal experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Duties include preparing and maintaining legal documents and correspondence, filing motions, interviewing clients and conducting legal research. Additionally you will be required to appear in court on behalf of clients and provide legal representation at every stage of the civil proceeding at the trial court level. You must also be proficient with the MS Office Suite or Google docs and Clio to create correspondence, billing hours, emails, and other business-related items.

Qualifications required include attention to detail, dependability, friendly customer service skills, critical thinking skills, a high level of professionalism, and a proven ability to meet deadlines. You will work with three other attorneys and serve clients on the phone and in person. Ability to handle confidential information in a professional and discreet manner. Full Job Description:
Essential Functions:
  • Conducts and summarizes research using various print and electronic publications and databases.
  • Drafts legal documents for client and firm needs.
  • Prepares and organizes documents for legal proceedings including deposition transcripts, briefs, motions, witness testimony, and more.
  • Maintains properly organized electronic files of client and firm documents. Creates and maintains databases related to clients and cases.
  • Completes depositions, takes witness statements, conducts client meetings, and other firm matters. Investigates matters related to cases, including locating and interviewing witnesses.
  • Manages case preparation for the purposes of litigating a civil case.
  • Prepares and files court documents.
  • Coordinate set-up and logistic needs related to trials, depositions and other legal proceedings.
  • Ensures that document requests from outside counsel, courts regulatory agencies and others are handled effectively and timely.
  • Handles additional administrative and attorney duties as needed.
  • Litigates civil cases through inception to conclusion.
  • Understands the client's goals and provides competent legal advice and strategy in order to help the client accomplish their goals.

Knowledge, Education, Skills, and Abilities:
Must Have:
  • J.D., Oregon State Bar Membership and stable work history.
  • Strong research skills using both print and electronic materials.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Extensive knowledge of legal terminology and documentation requirements.
  • Strong professional communication skills (in person, via telephone and in writing)

Must be able to effectively:
  • Work in stressful, fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment.
  • Organize, categorize and summarize extensive information and research.
  • Accurately type a minimum of 45 word per minute
  • Use Google docs and the Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access.
  • Master internal software, including investigative databases and billing system

Work Context: Physical Requirements, must be able to:
  • Perform seated work at a computer workstation for eight to ten hours per day, along with additional office tasks and duties related to courtroom and other legal proceedings.
  • Travel between office, courthouse, client locations and other areas where business is conducted throughout the workday.
  • Work a standard office schedule, typically between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, with additional hours, (including earlier or later, as well as weekends) required on occasion.

Pay:
Commission Only - This is ideal for a candidate with an existing caseload and substantial experience in handling car accident cases, we pay up to a 50% commission on fees to the firm. Because there is no floor on pay however, we do not recommend this option unless there are safeguards to ensure the attorney can still pay their bills while cases are being litigated to resolution.
