Mid-size Chicago-based Insurance Defense firm has an immediate opening for Associate Attorneys in our Chicago office to handle local and national accounts. Admission to practice in Illinois is required. Secondary admission to the Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Washington, Oregon, and/or California bar will be given preference. Our firm's expertise is diverse, but focused in the areas of toxic tort, complex product liability, general and professional liability. We approach litigation as a team, offering a level of customer service, flexibility and responsiveness not often found in larger firms.

This is an active position that requires case management skills, precision in legal writing, and a professional demeanor at depositions and court hearings in multiple jurisdictions. Candidates must be hard-working, motivated, and capable of independent work. Candidate must also have excellent analytical and critical reasoning skills, must possess the ability to think on their feet and respond strategically, and have a client focused mentality.

Position responsibilities include:
  • Independently manage a litigation caseload.
  • Review, analyze, and draft discovery requests.
  • Conduct depositions.
  • Prepare and argue motions.
  • Trial preparation and support.
  • Investigate facts.
  • Preparing witnesses for deposition and trial.
  • Attend court hearings and trials.
  • Maintain accurate time records.

Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • 1 – 5 years litigation experience.
  • Admitted to practice in Illinois. (With preference given to those with secondary admission to Missouri, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Texas, Washington, Oregon, or California bar.)
  • Experience with motion practice and depositions.
  • Experience taking lead in plaintiff and expert depositions preferred.
  • Capable of independent work.
  • Ability to work in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Superior research and writing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to analyze complex matters.
