Description:
Position Overview:HW Legal Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Litigation Associate Attorney to join our growing civil litigation practice. This role involves managing a caseload from inception through resolution, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, handling motions practice, and participating in hearings, mediations, and trials, while also gaining exposure to bankruptcy and estate planning matters. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, strategic thinker, and effective advocate who can work independently while collaborating with a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing a caseload of civil litigation matters across a variety of practice areas
- Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, and other legal documents under attorney supervision
- Conduct legal research and assist in developing case strategies
- Support all phases of discovery, including drafting and responding to written discovery and document review
- Assist in preparation for and attendance at depositions
- Attend court hearings, mediations, and client meetings with increasing responsibility
- Assist with trial preparation including exhibits and witness coordination
- Assist with bankruptcy filings, including preparation of petitions, schedules, and related documents
- Assist with estate planning matters, including drafting wills, trusts, and related documents
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel professionally
- Maintain organized case files and ensure compliance with deadlines
- Collaborate with senior attorneys on case strategy
- Participate in firm training and mentorship programs
- Gain exposure to multiple areas of civil practice
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in North Carolina
- Bonus: Licensed to practice law in South Carolina
- 0–2 years of litigation experience (civil litigation preferred; clerkship/internship considered)
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Exposure to discovery and motions practice
- Courtroom experience is a plus
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and open-minded approach to different areas of civil practice
- Ability to network and build professional relationships
- Training and mentorship provided with hands-on experienced.
