Description:
About Porter ScottFounded in 1976 by a group of respected trial attorneys, Porter Scott has earned a reputation as one of Northern California's premier civil litigation firms. While we have grown significantly in size and reach, our founding values remain unchanged: delivering exceptional results while building trusted, long-term relationships with our clients. Known for our professionalism, integrity, and trial expertise, we approach every case as a team—collaborating across practice areas and experience levels to develop thoughtful strategies and achieve the best outcomes. We take pride in fostering a collegial, supportive environment where attorneys work closely together and learn from one another.
At Porter Scott, collaboration and mentorship are core to who we are. Deeply rooted in the Sacramento legal community, we are committed to training and developing our attorneys through hands-on experience, regular feedback, and close partnership with senior litigators. Our goal is to help each associate grow into a confident, highly skilled trial attorney and, for those who desire it, progress toward long-term leadership and shareholder opportunities within the firm.
About the role:
As an Associate Attorney at Porter Scott, you will manage a diverse caseload of civil litigation matters from inception through resolution while working closely with partners and senior attorneys at every stage. You will draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and correspondence; conduct and defend depositions; argue motions in court; and participate in mediations, arbitrations, and trials. This role offers meaningful responsibility and early courtroom exposure, balanced with guidance and mentorship to support your growth. You will be an active contributor to case strategy, collaborating with attorneys and staff to deliver exceptional client service in a fast-paced but supportive environment.
What We're Looking For:
We seek attorneys with strong writing, oral advocacy, and analytical skills, along with effective time management and sound judgment. The ideal candidate is proactive, intellectually curious, and collaborative—someone who values mentorship, welcomes feedback, and enjoys working as part of a team. Candidates must be members in good standing with the California State Bar. Prior litigation or law firm experience is preferred but not required, as we place a strong emphasis on training and development.
Compensation & Benefits:
Porter Scott offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support both professional success and personal well-being. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; a 401(k) plan with employer contributions; and a Section 125 flexible spending account. We provide paid time off and sick leave to promote work-life balance, as well as short-term and long-term disability coverage. The firm also supports remote and hybrid work arrangements where appropriate, robust training and mentorship programs, and a clearly defined shareholder track for long-term career growth. Our culture is collaborative, supportive, and focused on building careers—not just filling roles.
