Description:

Build Your Career With Clients, Autonomy, and Room to Grow

The Law Office of Theresa Nguyen, PLLC is seeking a knowledgeable, motivated associate attorney to join our small, growing team.

Our firm generates the client opportunities. You bring the legal knowledge, sound judgment, and commitment to provide excellent service. You do not need to bring a book of business or generate your own clients.

This role offers meaningful independence, direct client relationships, and the opportunity to increase your earnings through strong performance. You will have flexibility to select consultations and matters that fit your expertise and availability, in coordination with the firm.

The position begins part-time, with a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week. Hours may increase toward full-time based on workload, your availability, and your professional goals.

Our Core Practice Areas
Working knowledge of all six of our core practice areas is required:
  • Real Estate
  • Business Law
  • Estate Planning
  • Immigration
  • Tax
  • Probate

Your depth of experience may vary across these areas, but familiarity with each is essential. You should be able to identify relevant issues, conduct informed consultations, and manage matters within your competence while recognizing when further research or guidance is appropriate.

We value attorneys who continually strengthen their knowledge and take an active interest in becoming better at their profession.

What Makes This Opportunity Appealing
  • Clients provided by the firm: Focus on legal work and client service while our firm handles marketing and client generation.
  • Professional autonomy: Select consultations and matters that align with your expertise and available capacity.
  • Hybrid work: Work remotely on suitable tasks while attending scheduled consultations, signings, and client meetings at our Renton office.
  • Substantial bonus potential: Earn hourly base compensation plus tiered performance bonuses paid every pay period when earned.
  • IRA matching: Receive employer matching under the firm's IRA plan, subject to plan terms and eligibility.
  • Opportunity to expand your hours: Begin part-time and increase your commitment as your workload and goals develop.
  • A small, growing team: Work closely with colleagues and make a meaningful contribution to the firm's continued growth.

Client Relationships and Responsibilities

When a client engages our firm for further legal services following your consultation, you will serve as that client's primary attorney and point of contact for the accepted matter.

You will be expected to take ownership of the engagement, remain responsive during agreed working hours, communicate clearly, and keep the matter moving toward completion. A consultation alone does not automatically create an ongoing engagement for additional services.

Responsibilities include:
  • Conducting consultations and explaining legal options, scope, and next steps.
  • Managing accepted matters from engagement through completion.
  • Researching legal issues and preparing, reviewing, and negotiating relevant documents.
  • Keeping clients informed and responding promptly to communications.
  • Managing deadlines, maintaining organized files, and following through on commitments.
  • Recording hours worked, time billed, and work completed accurately and consistently.
  • Collaborating with the managing attorney and support staff.
  • Exercising sound judgment regarding competence, conflicts, confidentiality, and professional responsibilities.

Compensation and Performance Bonuses

Your base hourly rate will be determined by the managing attorney based on your experience and relevant qualifications.

Our tiered bonus structure offers substantial earning potential for productive attorneys. Bonus tiers are primarily based on the ratio of billed hours to total hours worked, with earned bonuses paid every pay period under the firm's bonus plan.

Timekeeping and performance metrics are used to track work completed, evaluate productivity, and determine bonus eligibility and payouts. Accurate timekeeping, appropriate billing, quality legal work, and dependable client service are essential.

The firm also offers an IRA with employer matching, subject to plan terms and eligibility.

Required Qualifications:
  • Active Washington law license in good standing.
  • Working knowledge of real estate, business law, estate planning, immigration, tax, and probate.
  • Ability to independently manage matters within your competence and seek guidance when appropriate.
  • Residence in the Renton area or within practical commuting distance.
  • Reliable availability for scheduled consultations, signings, and meetings at our Renton office.
  • A consistent commitment of at least 12.5 hours per week.
  • Strong legal research, writing, organization, and communication skills.
  • Professionalism, initiative, accountability, and dependable follow-through.
  • Commitment to continuing education, constructive feedback, and ongoing professional development.

Additional Opportunity: Evictions and Civil Litigation

Our firm previously handled evictions and civil litigation and continues to receive substantial inquiries for these services.

For an attorney with relevant experience and interest, we are open to reintroducing these services and supporting their development through renewed marketing and operational support. This opportunity would depend on the attorney's expertise, interests, and capacity.

How to Apply:
Apply through Indeed with your résumé and responses to the application questions.

Please highlight your experience across our six core practice areas, your strongest areas of practice, and your availability. If you have experience or an interest in evictions or civil litigation, we would also like to hear about it.

Bring your knowledge, initiative, and commitment to client service. Build meaningful client relationships and grow your career with a firm that rewards your contributions.

The Law Office of Theresa Nguyen, PLLC welcomes qualified applicants from all backgrounds and evaluates candidates based on relevant qualifications, professional judgment, and ability to perform the role.
