Job Summary:The Law Office of Jaime E. Gangemi, staff counsel for the Motor Vehicle Insurance Indemnification Corporation (MVAIC), is seeking an attorney to join our Legal Department. The position is for a Tort Attorney, where the ideal candidate will defend MVAIC and uninsured motorists in mostly tort actions. This is a hybrid role, where it is currently required that one day a week is spent in our lower Manhattan office. Work arrangements could change over time based on business needs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Direct and coordinate defense litigation of motor vehicle accident cases from inception to trial;
- Regularly communicate with MVAIC's Tort and Qualification Departments concerning litigation strategy and case management;
- Attend appearances for all phases of litigation;
- Submit timely and comprehensive post-appearance reports;
- Accurately document all activity within the file and update claims;
- Direct paralegals in preparation of pleadings, discovery demands and responses, and motions;
- Draft affirmations and briefs in support/opposition to motions;
- Conduct Lexis/Nexis assisted legal research, as needed;
- Stay current with and adopt changes in applicable case law, Civil Practice Law & Rules (CPLR), and Court Rules;
- Comply with NYS Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements;
- Be flexible and willing to assume other responsibilities deemed necessary by management; and
- Foster a team-oriented, friendly, and dependable environment.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an A.B.A. Accredited Law School;
- Admission to New York State Bar;
- Must have an active law license to practice in the State of New York and a member in good standing with the State Bar of New York;
- Minimum one (1) year motor vehicle accident litigation experience preferred;
- Working knowledge of New York State Insurance Law, Vehicle and Traffic Law (VTL), and Civil Practice Law and Rules (CPLR);
- Ability to work efficiently with cases in electronic form;
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills; and
- Professional demeanor.

- Potential Starting Salary range: $114,217 - $214,363 (starting salary commensurate with experience)
