Position Summary:We are seeking a Junior Associate (1–3 years) to support our growing firm. This position will primarily support our litigation and health care practices. However, at Meliora we believe that a diverse and well-rounded experience is critical for the development of new attorneys. Therefore, while support for litigation and health care is the primary focus, the selected candidate will also provide support to our other practice groups based on project needs. This position is ideal for an attorney who is interested in commercial litigation, business and corporate disputes, and/or health care investigations and regulatory work.
Core Responsibilities:
Litigation:
- Assist with all phases of litigation, including legal research, motion practice, pleadings, and discovery
- Prepare for depositions, hearings, and trial
- Manage smaller matters independently, with supervision
- Support providers responding to audits and investigations
- Assist with compliance program review and development and self-disclosures
- Conduct regulatory research and prepare client-facing memoranda
- Contribute to audit defense and appeals
- Work with attorneys across practice areas, including corporate, not-for-profit, commercial real estate, and trusts and estates/elder law
- Support overall project management activities
- Assist with the development of substantive public-facing publications, presentations and other materials
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school required
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- 1–3 years of experience as a practicing attorney
- Litigation and/or health law experience preferred
- Strong writing, research, and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively on site and with remote staff and attorneys.
