Summary of Position: This Associate Attorney will assist the senior attorneys and partners in providing legal counsel to clients who need to prevent or resolve family law conflicts. In this role, you will be able to have a major impact on the success of the company and our clients.

Essential Functions:
  • Draft family law pleadings and court forms such as initial filings, Requests for Orders, ex parte paperwork, client declarations, stipulations, temporary restraining orders, settlement agreements, judgments, briefs, and other legal memoranda
  • Write and respond to correspondence with clients, opposing counsel, and experts
  • Respond to and propound discovery such as special interrogatories, demands for production of documents, form interrogatories, and subpoenas
  • Conduct and defend depositions
  • Review and summarize discovery received
  • Prepare financial documents such as Income and Expense Declarations and Schedules of Assets and Debts
  • Research laws, court decisions, documents, opinions, briefs, or other information needed for cases
  • Proofread documents as requested by the lead attorney
  • Maintain a task list of projects and follow-up as needed
  • Communicate with counsel regarding case management or procedural requirements
  • Enter information into computerized calendar, filing, or case management systems
  • Negotiate case settlements and make court appearances as necessary
  • Consult with potential new clients
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Various other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:
  • Must have a Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school
  • Must be an active member, in good standing, of the State Bar of California
  • Must have family law experience
  • Must have Litigating experience minimum of 3 years
  • Law and Government — Knowledge of the California Family Code, the Code of Civil Procedure, the Evidence Code, California Rules of Professional Conduct, California Rules of Court, and applicable local rules
  • English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Demonstrates exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills, attention to detail, problem solving, dependability, integrity, stress tolerance, and initiative
  • Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Attention to detail – able to follow detailed instructions without constant supervision
  • Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Capable of being resourceful and proactive when issues arise
  • Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as general office software including email, video conferencing, and internet browser
  • Accredited Law degree
  • Work under the supervision of a senior attorney on each case assigned
  • Use of database user interface, query, presentation, and document management software

Base salary
$120,000/yr - $140,000/yr
