Description:
Bowditch & Dewey, LLP, is seeking an associate for our Family Law & Divorce Practice Area. The associate assists and supports the assigning attorney(s) in the practice in all phases of client matters from inception through discovery and trial. This position may reside in our Boston or Worcester office. The role offers a hybrid schedule with a minimum of three in office days. This is a full-time position.Successful candidates must have a minimum of two years' experience in the various areas of family law and probate litigation including but not limited to divorce, child custody matters, adoptions, division of assets, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, spousal and child support, restraining orders, guardianships and conservatorships, and other probate issues. Individuals must also possess courtroom experience in the Probate and Family Court.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drafting documents / pleadings such as complaints, petitions, responsive pleadings, motions, memoranda, agreements for judgment, separation agreements, and prenuptial and postnuptial agreements
- Preparing, reviewing, and analyzing voluminous discovery productions and identifying key documents for the case
- Analyzing substantial and complicated asset divisions
- Assisting in all phases of litigation including arguing and defending motions, taking and defending depositions and participating in mediations, arbitrations and trials
- Communicating with clients, analyzing client needs, providing sound legal advice, and status updates
- Preparing clients for hearings and trials.
- Evaluating, synthesizing and researching case law, statutes, regulations and documents impacting the firm's clients
- Assisting in all aspects of trial preparation
- Negotiating agreements between parties
- Providing status updates to the assigning attorney(s)
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Two (2) – four (4) years of experience in a Family Law & Divorce practice area
- Must have a strong academic background with a Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in the state of Massachusetts. (Member of the Massachusetts Bar) (Multiple state Bar admissions are a plus)
