Description:

Bhakta Law Firm, A Professional Corporation – Opening for Associate Attorney

Bhakta Law Firm, A Professional Corporation (“BLF”) is a small law firm based in Cerritos, CA. After over 5 and a half years working at premier law firms in Orange County and the Inland Empire, attorney Ankit H. Bhakta created his own law firm in April 2022 and is looking to grow the practice. Unlike more traditional law firms, BLF prioritizes work-life balance and a positive work environment.

Because it's a small business, aspects of the job position can be modified to fit the preferences of the job applicant, including building in options for remote work, adjustments to traditional billable hour requirements, incentives for client originations, and others. This is truly a unique opportunity to join a growing law practice at the ground level.

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, excellent interpersonal skills, 2+ years of relevant California employment litigation experience working at well-reputed law firms, and demonstrate top-notch legal research, analysis, and writing abilities. Relevant experience includes defending single-plaintiff employment cases and/or class action and PAGA wage-and-hour lawsuits with partner and/or senior attorney oversight. The individual should be able to work independently and in a team environment, so a proven record of reliability and punctuality is also important. We are seeking an individual who is enthusiastic about the work we do and wants to become an integral part of our growing firm. Active California Bar license is required.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Handling all aspects of litigation case management from inception to trial (with senior attorney oversight), including: preparing initial pleadings, assisting with all phases of discovery, taking and defending depositions, client communications regarding status updates and litigation strategy; preparing and arguing discovery, procedural, and dispositive motions in state and federal court (and in arbitration), assisting with trial-related documents and motion work, and advising clients on California labor and employment compliance issues.
  • Double-checking and confirming satisfactory completion of administrative tasks and paralegal tasks (by legal assistants and paralegals) related to litigation case management.
  • Maintaining existing client relations and client satisfaction with legal services provided.
  • Timely, satisfactory completion of attorney admin tasks such as entering billing entries.
