Compensation: $85,000 – $110,000 annually, DOE + Bonus Opportunities
Status: Full-Time | Exempt | Reports to: Managing Attorney
About the role:
The Law Office of Lauryn Tully is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to join our client-centered, woman-owned criminal defense firm. This is a courtroom-focused role that offers a well-rounded mix of work across:
- Adult and juvenile criminal defense (primary caseload)
- Post-conviction matters, particularly Rule 35(c) litigation
- Guardian ad Litem representation in delinquency cases
This position would primarily be for attorneys who value being in court and litigation.
We value honesty, professionalism, and genuine commitment to client-centered defense. Candidates must demonstrate real experience, not simply familiarity or observation.
Key Responsibilities:
Criminal Defense (Primary)
- Represent adult and juvenile clients in all stages of trial-level litigation
- Conduct motions hearings, status conferences, negotiations, and trials
- Draft motions, develop case strategy, and communicate options to clients
- Handle Rule 35(c) cases including investigation, drafting post-conviction claims, and litigating evidentiary hearings
- Conduct witness preparation, factual development, and courtroom examination
- Represent the best interests of youth in delinquency proceedings
- Attend hearings, meetings, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Communicate professionally with families, providers, and system partners
- Maintain organized, detailed, and timely case files
- Communicate clearly, compassionately, and professionally
- Work collaboratively with investigators, social workers, and support staff
- Uphold strong ethical judgment and independent decision-making
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to:
- Navigate the stages of a criminal case from advisement to disposition
- Draft basic trial-level motions such as suppression motions, bond arguments, or mitigation materials
- Conduct hearings with confidence and professionalism
- Manage a caseload with appropriate supervision but without constant oversight
Preferred Experience:
(Not required, but strong preference given to candidates with demonstrable experience)
- Hands-on criminal defense experience beyond observation
- Prior litigation or courtroom experience (juvenile or adult)
- Experience working with investigators, social workers, or interdisciplinary defense teams
- Ability to discuss specific past motions, hearings, or case responsibilities
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in Colorado and in good standing
- No disciplinary history with any licensing authority
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, email platforms, and legal technology (MyCase, G Suite, Dropbox, etc.)
- Must reside in or be willing to reliably travel to Colorado Springs
- Reliable transportation required for court and out-of-county appearances
Work Environment:
We offer a hybrid environment with flexibility. Most administrative work may be completed remotely, but in-person attendance is required for court, client meetings, and collaborative team activities.
The position involves urgent matters that may require quick response or shifting priorities.
