Position Overview:The Charleston School of Law offers a comprehensive Academic and Bar Success Program that starts with Orientation and follows students through their bar licensure. We are excited to add an Assistant (entry-level) or Associate (experienced) Director for Academic and Bar Success to our team.
The Law School seeks applications from candidates who are passionate about teaching academic and bar success courses, working with students outside of the classroom, and staying informed on NextGen Bar Exam developments. The candidate will collaborate with a team to promote the School's Mission to ensure the success of Charleston School of Law students.
This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. The candidate hired will actively participate in enhancing the effectiveness of the Office of Academic and Bar Success including:
- Involvement in all stages of law students' journeys from Orientation to becoming a licensed attorney.
- The candidate will teach a variety of courses including sessions during Orientation, which focus on some foundational skills to kick off their law school journey)
- A 1L class which is similar to a structured study group to help select students in their second semester.
- A 2L class which provides comprehensive training in essential lawyering skills such as:
- client interviewing and counseling
- legal research and investigation
- persuasive fact analysis
- A 3L class which is a bar prep course taken in their last semester.
- Assist in the design and execution of workshops throughout the school year.
- Engage in 1-on-1 support for students at-risk or on probation.
- Serve as a bar study coach during the graduates' full-time bar study journey.
- The candidate hired should be familiar with the skills needed for law students to succeed, demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills, possess excellent computer skills, possess knowledge of the Uniform Bar Exam and the NextGen Bar Exam, and be licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
