The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Texas has a vacancy for an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Division. The position will be based in the Beaumont, Plano, Sherman, or Tyler office. Attorneys in the Civil Division represent the United States, its agencies, and their offices, in both defensive and affirmative litigation of claims involving, among other things, health care fraud, environmental matters, defense procurement fraud, torts, administrative enforcement actions, Touhy matters, prisoner litigation, housing and employment discrimination, and disability rights matters. The selected attorney will manage all aspects of civil immigration matters, including gathering evidence, taking testimony, writing briefs, and appearing in court at hearings and trials.
The attorney may also handle other types of cases as needed.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications : Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree (or equivalent), be an active member in good standing of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) and have at least one-year post-J.D. (or equivalent) legal or other relevant experience.
A minimum of 1-year post-J.D. (or equivalent) legal or other relevant experience is required. United States citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Applicants must demonstrate a quick analytical ability to accurately and precisely articulate the critical issues in a case. Applicants must demonstrate superior oral and writing skills, as well as strong research and interpersonal skills, and good judgment. Applicants must possess excellent communication and courtroom skills and exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff, and client agencies. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Salary:
Salary Information : Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $65,563,to $171,487 per year.

- Beaumont and Tyler, Texas: Salary is $76,748to $173,485 which includes 17.06% locality pay.
- Plano and Sherman, Texas: Salary is: $83,435 to $188,602 which includes a 27.26% locality pay.
