The mission of the United States Attorney's Office, District of Hawaii, is to investigate and prosecute federal crimes as well as defend and affirmatively pursue the interests of the United States in civil litigation in a manner that is just and consistent with the priorities established by the Attorney General of the United States.

Duties:
The District of Hawaii is seeking applications from experienced attorneys for a vacancy in the Criminal Division. In the Criminal Division, Assistant United States Attorneys handle a wide variety of complex cases including drug trafficking, money-laundering, white collar crime, organized crime, computer-related crime, violent crime, and appellate litigation. The successful candidate will handle all aspects of criminal prosecution, from grand jury appearances to court appearances, trials, appeals and post-conviction litigation. The candidate may also assist with appellate matters, both criminal and civil, including preparing and reviewing briefs; mooting and handling appellate arguments; and advising colleagues on latest appellate developments.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

  • Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants should possess superior oral and written communication skills, legal research skills, excellent analytical ability, good judgment, courtroom skills, appellate litigation experience, and a demonstrated capacity to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment. Experience in the handling of appeals, either as a law clerk or attorney, is a positive factor. In addition, applicants must exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff and client agencies.

  • Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $75,640 to $191,800 which includes 21.79% locality pay plus a cost of living allowance (COLA) of 8.90%. You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Evaluation Method: Once your complete application package is received, it will be reviewed to ensure you meet all job requirements. An attorney interview panel will then review all qualified applicants and make recommendations for invitation to interview. You will be notified if selected for an interview.
