Summary:The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado is looking for an experienced criminal supervisor to serve as Chief of its Violent Crime and Immigration Enforcement Section. The section includes approximately 10 AUSAs and several term SAUSAs.. The position is located in Denver, Colorado, home to over 300 days of sunshine every year, world-class outdoor recreation, a vibrant arts and restaurant scene, and great schools.
Duties:
The VCIE Section Chief is responsible for supervising the day-to-day prosecution of cases involving violent crime, including firearms crimes, bank and Hobbs Act robberies, VCAR, and BOP cases, as well as criminal immigration cases and is a senior advisor to the Criminal Chief on these matters and other management issues. The VCIE Section Chief is also responsible for ensuring positive working relationships with our relevant federal and state law enforcement partners. The Chief also supervises the AUSA who serves as the district's Project Safe Neighborhoods coordinator.
An appointment as VCIE Section Chief within the U.S. Attorney's Office offers unique and challenging experiences for a highly motivated DOJ leader. The successful candidate will be hired as an AUSA and will immediately serve as a Supervisory AUSA under a temporary promotion as the VCIE Section Chief in the Criminal Division. The selected candidate will be responsible for overall management of the VCIE Section, including but not limited to the following:
- Supervising and managing VCIE Section workloads.
- Supervising, advising, and counseling AUSAs and SAUSAs in the section on strategic approaches to their investigations and prosecutions.
- Advising and counseling the Criminal Chief regarding VCIE criminal matters and trends within the District.
- Performing case intake and case assignment to criminal AUSAs and SAUSAs.
- Ensuring criminal AUSAs and SAUSAs properly prepare their assigned litigation for indictment and trial, including review of search warrants, Title IIIs, prosecution memoranda, criminal complaints, indictments, plea agreements, and other pleadings.
- Developing and maintaining strong and cooperative working relationships with federal and local law enforcement agencies.
- Representing the USAO in inter-departmental and inter-agency meetings and communicating matters of concern to the USAO involving enforcement and litigation.

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), have at least 6 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience, and have experience supervising other attorneys.
United States citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ideal qualifications also include 8 or more years overall litigation experience as well as experience as both a federal prosecutor and supervisor of federal prosecutors. Ideal applicants will be available to start work in the District of Colorado by the end of June, 2024.
