Duties:
- The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida (MDFL) is seeking to hire an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) to serve in the Asset Recovery Division.
- Assistant US Attorneys in the Asset Recovery Division pursue civil and criminal forfeiture of property acquired through or used in criminal activity and enforce criminal monetary penalties (restitution, fines, and assessments). The effective use of both civil and criminal forfeiture is an essential component of the Department of Justice's efforts to disrupt criminal conduct and dismantle criminal organizations including terrorist financers, fraudsters, human traffickers, transnational drug cartels, and cyber criminals. The primary goals of the Asset Forfeiture Program are to punish and deter criminal activity by depriving criminals of their ill-gotten gain and to recover assets that may be used to compensate victims when authorized under federal law. Much of our asset forfeiture caseload is related to prosecution of illegal immigration, illegal trafficking of dangerous drugs and human beings, and targeting the Cartels and Transnational Criminal Organizations designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and Specially Designated Global Terrorists, and financial fraud, including investment fraud, bank fraud, procurement fraud, and cyber-crime. DOJ uses forfeited funds to pay crime victims when defendants lack the ability to satisfy their restitution orders. When a defendant can pay restitution and forfeit assets, Asset Recovery AUSAs work diligently to collect both payments by ensuring that complete financial investigations are conducted, including the identification of assets available to pay restitution and fines as well as the determination of the appropriate amount of restitution and/or fine. Asset Recovery AUSAs also serve as a resource to Criminal Division AUSAs on conducting financial investigations and analyzing restitution issues.
- Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
- The MDFL is headquartered in Tampa and has branch offices in Orlando, Jacksonville, Fort Myers and Ocala.

Applicants also should be computer literate, possess superior oral and written communication skills, have strong character and excellent interpersonal skills, have the capacity to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment, and have a strong commitment to public service.

- Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $76,748 to $197,100 which includes 17.06% locality pay.
