Description:
Responsibilities:Represents indigent persons charged with crimes in the County. Defends individuals charged with felonies, misdemeanors, and traffic cases for which a sentence of incarceration may be imposed. Provides effective representation to clients who are frequently illiterate, uneducated, and uncooperative while maintaining a large and varied caseload.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Zealous, holistic representation of clients at every stage of the criminal process
- Ability to competently and resourcefully manage an active felony caseload
- Research and prepare court orders, motions, legal memoranda and other documents
- Communicate with clients, team members, and resources for optimal client outcomes
- Seek professional development through training, continuing legal education, and trial skills courses
Competencies for Successful Performance of Job Duties:
- Demonstrated commitment to zealous and comprehensive public defense
- Criminal trial experience preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage an active caseload
- Strong client advocacy and communication skills
Required licenses or certifications:
- South Carolina State Bar License or eligible to be licensed within ninety (90) days of hiring
- Valid South Carolina motor vehicle operator license
Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education and Experience
- Graduate Degree
- 3 to 5 years' experience
