Clay County is seeking a dedicated Assistant Prosecuting Attorney I to join our team. This is an opportunity to represent the State of Missouri in criminal cases while gaining invaluable courtroom experience in a supportive and professional environment. The ideal candidate has a Juris Doctor (JD) and license to practice law in Missouri and is Member in good standing with the Missouri Bar. They have a strong knowledge of criminal law, trial techniques, rules of evidence, and procedure, excellent communication skills with the ability to remain composed under pressure, a commitment to fairness, integrity, and public service, and preferably at least one year of related legal experience.
The employee will receive an annual salary, DOE, along with a benefits package that includes two defined benefit retirement plans fully funded by the County and a deferred-compensation plan with a match on the first 4% contributed. We also offer three medical plans including two high deductible plans, dental, vision, two flexible spending accounts, and supplemental plans. Full-time employees are also offered life insurance (2X annual salary) paid by the County, paid vacation/sick leave, 14 paid holidays, LTD and tuition reimbursement.

- Reviewing cases and determining appropriate charges.
- Represent the State in all phases of the criminal process, including arraignments, hearings, trials, and docket calls Preparing and presenting cases at preliminary hearings, motion hearings, and trials.
- Work closely with law enforcement, victims, and witnesses to ensure justice is served.
- Negotiate plea agreements with defense counsel.
