Job Summary:The Cole County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. Our office is located in Jefferson City, Missouri. This position will handle assigned cases from initial filing to trial and appeal (where applicable). The caseload consists primarily of felony offenses with a portion of misdemeanors offenses. There will be regular opportunities to handle more serious offenses.
Duties:
Assistant Prosecutors make charging decisions on their assigned cases, extend plea offers, handle dockets, conduct legal research and writing and other prosecutorial duties as assigned. This position affords the opportunity for advancement and professional career development, and provides substantial training and mentorship.
- Review police reports/probable cause statements and prepare charges for the State
- Perform standard litigation and trial work for misdemeanor and felony caseload
- Appear as docket attorney for the State for weekly court dockets
- Conduct research and writing on legal issues
- Communicate with law enforcement, witnesses, and attorneys
- Negotiate plea agreements for disposition of criminal cases

Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school or eligible for licensure in the State of Missouri.
- Admission to the state bar association
- Strong knowledge and experience in legal drafting and research
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Annual Salary Range/Benefits: Salary to commensurate with experience, includes vacation, holiday, sick leave, retirement, and other benefits.
