We invite you to apply for a full-time position on the faculty of Alaska's preeminent undergraduate legal studies program.The University of Alaska Anchorage's School of Justice and Human Services invites applications for a full-time, 9-month non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Justice (Legal Studies) position. This position will teach undergraduate courses in the UAA Legal Studies program, which offers bachelor's degrees in Legal Studies and associate degrees and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Paralegal Studies. To be eligible for this position, applicants must be legally authorized for unrestricted employment in the United States at the time of application. Work visas will not be sponsored for this position.
The Legal Studies program functions within the School's Justice Center, which was established by the Alaska Legislature in 1975, with a mandate to provide statewide justice-related education, research, and service. It is an interdisciplinary unit that provides undergraduate and professional education, conducts research in the areas of crime, law, and justice; and provides services to government units, justice agencies, and community organizations throughout urban and rural Alaska to promote a safe, healthy, and just society.
As part of the School of Justice and Human Services, the Legal Studies Program supports this mission by preparing our students to advance justice through ethical practice and civic engagement with a thorough education in American law and legal policy. The Legal Studies program also supports other programs by providing relevant law-related courses, serving as a resource for legal training in the College of Health, and supporting community-based law and civic engagement programs.
To thrive in this role, the applicant must be enthusiastic and dedicated to teaching undergraduate students about both substantive and procedural law and legal practice. We are looking for someone who can teach a variety of substantive law courses and who is dedicated to continually advancing their own teaching practice, and who will embrace the totality of the faculty role.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must hold a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from a law school approved by the American Bar Association as of the degree date, be a member in good standing of the Alaska Bar Association or of the bar association of another state, have a minimum of three years' experience in the practice of law, and have worked with or as a paralegal or other nonlawyer legal professional.
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, 9-month, term-funded faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
