Job Overview:The School of Criminal Justice- Law and Paralegal Studies program at the University of Cincinnati is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor – Educator (non-tenure track), with an appointment starting August 15, 2026, although the start date is negotiable. This is a 9-month per year teaching position.
UC is a Research I Institution that grants doctorates in 98 areas. The School of Criminal Justice grants the BS, MS, and PhD degrees. The School also houses research centers specializing in corrections, policing, criminal justice, justice and communities, and crime science. The School offers specializations in crime prevention, policing, corrections, criminal justice, and criminology. Essential Functions:
An Assistant Professor – Educator at the University of Cincinnati is expected to teach and perform other professional or creative activities (e.g., oversee field placement activities, work with student organizations). This position will support the University of Cincinnati's mission and commitment to excellence in our students, faculty, staff, and all our activities. The Law and Paralegal Studies program seeks candidates who will help expand and grow enrollment for the program and be responsible for program compliance with the ABA Guidelines for Approval of Paralegal Programs (ABA Guidelines). Applicants must be licensed to practice law with experience working with or as paralegals, having earned a minimum of a Juris Doctorate, possess no less than three years work experience in the legal field, and have demonstrated experience in, and strong commitment to, online teaching and mentoring at the college level. Successful candidates will readily contribute to departmental, institutional, and organizational activities.
This faculty position includes teaching 12 credit hours per semester, two semesters per academic year.
Minimum Requirements:
- Juris Doctorate.
- No less than three (3) years of work experiences in the legal field.
- Have experience working with or as a paralegal.
- Demonstrated experience in, and strong commitment to, online teaching and mentoring at the college level.
- Licensed to practice law in good standing.
Required Education:
Must have obtained a Doctorate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited college or university of recognized standing in a field appropriate to the requirements of the position.
Required Experience:
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research evidenced by strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Candidates for a tenured appointment should demonstrate intellectual leadership and impact on the field and potential significant contributions to the department, University of Cincinnati, and wider scholarly community.
- Additional Qualifications Considered
- Successful teaching in a paralegal program at the postsecondary level as substantiated by assessments
- Evidence of experience working as an attorney with paralegals
- Evidence of experience integrating writing, technology, and thinking skills in the teaching of paralegal studies
- Successful use of technology to support instruction
- Evidence of knowledge of the application process and standards for ABA approval of paralegal education programs
