Description:

​​​​Reporting to the Director of Legal Counsel, provides legal advice and counsel to members of the Illinois State Board of Education, State Superintendent, Legal Officer, Agency Management and program staff regarding general education law matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Researches applicable law, regulations and non-regulatory guidance and drafts legal opinions, legislation, administrative rules, guidance, and other documents.
  • Provides legal and program guidance to the above-described individuals in developing policy and strategic decision-making.
  • Oversees relevant litigation and administrative proceedings.
  • Participates in Agency and external committees and task forces.
  • Advises and counsels on educator licensure matters and labor law.
  • Provides technical assistance to school administrators and other constituents as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.​​​

Required Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited law school. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)​​​​
  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)​​​​
  • At least two years of experience working as a licensed attorney in the field of Education Law or a related legal field.​​​​
  • Knowledge of Education Law.​​​​

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of the Illinois School Code, Open Meetings Act, educator licensure, and labor and employment law.​​​
