Position Summary:
The Assistant General Counsel, Litigation and Employment is accountable for providing legal advice regarding all facets of local, state and federal employment labor and employment laws, including, but not limited to: discrimination and anti-harassment laws, health and safety regulations, workers' compensation, wage and hour, labor, benefits, employee privacy, and leaves and other accommodation requests. This position will also be responsible for managing the company's entire litigation portfolio and for providing general advice and counsel to the company's retail operations teams.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage a wide variety of civil litigation and arbitration matters, including commercial disputes, employment, personal injury, and product liability.
  • Assist with outside counsel selection, develop litigation strategy, oversee discovery, and manage costs related to litigation and arbitration matters.
  • Review and respond to third-party subpoenas.
  • Help manage company's Ethics and Compliance hotline and program.
  • Conduct, direct, and support internal investigations, including gathering and reviewing information, interviewing witnesses and subjects, preparing reports of investigations, and identifying and coordinating needed remediation.
  • Provide legal representation and/or supervise outside counsel regarding government administrative agency charges, audits, and investigations (e.g., EEOC, DOL, OSHA and state/local agencies) as well as attorney demand letters and claims involving employment-related concerns.
  • Provide general advice regarding global privacy laws and regulations.
  • Provide employment law advice and counseling on all aspects of the employment relationship, including but not limited to, recruiting, employee relations, leaves of absence, disability accommodations, wage and hour, discipline and discharge, workplace harassment, benefits, privacy, immigration, and health and safety.
  • Assess legal risks associated with proposed policy, personnel, and operational decisions and recommend action to minimize identified risks.
  • Develop and implement employment policies and procedures to help maintain a safe, inclusive, and compliant work environment.
  • Draft and negotiate employment-related agreements.
  • Create, update, and provide training programs on various?topics.
  • Provide advice and counsel to Retail Operations and Loss Prevention teams regarding consumer laws as well as risk management policies and procedures.
  • Work proactively across all departments within the organization to identify legal issues and risk and provide practical advice through trusted partnerships.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for supervising multiple projects

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor required
  • Licensed and a member in good standing of a State Bar required
  • 8+ years of litigation or employment law experience working for an internationally / nationally recognized firm, or in combination with in-house experience.
  • Law degree from?an accredited law school.
  • International litigation or employment law experience a plus
  • High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, a
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management.
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.
