The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to serve on our Legal Affairs Team. In this position you would, provide legal guidance to agency staff, management, and leadership on a variety of matters.OSA is the state's Fiscal Watchdog. We hold state government and entities that receive public money accountable, working on behalf of North Carolinians to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse.

As part of our team, you will get to:
- Draft, review, and interpret contracts and memoranda of understanding
- Perform comprehensive and detail-oriented legal research on relevant state and federal statutes and regulations and produce legal guidance regarding the same
- Working with OSA's assigned DOJ attorney and/or hired outside counsel on litigation matters and occasionally providing direct representation in litigation matters
- Review and provide feedback on draft reports from OSA's Performance Audit Team, Rapid Response Team, and Investigations Unit to ensure accuracy of all legal interpretations contained therein as part of OSA's quality assurance procedures
- Assist in developing, implementing, and interpreting agency policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal laws
- Coordinate with external counsel, stakeholders, and other government entities as necessary
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments that may impact the agency and advise on potential implications
- Provide training and education to agency staff on legal and compliance matters
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and legal research skills
- High ethical standards and professional judgment
- Ability to work collaboratively with other Assistant GCs, the General Counsel, and other teams throughout the agency
Minimum Education and Experience:
Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar
And
Three years of progressively responsible professional legal experience

Pay: $87,849.00 - $153,736.00 per year
