The Opportunity:
The Office of the General Counsel is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to join our legal team. The goal of the Office of the General Counsel is to help A Non-Profit Organization achieve its mission while assessing and managing organizational risk. The Assistant General Counsel will report to the General Counsel and work closely with the Contracts and HR teams.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Review, negotiate and draft various corporate contracts and other legal documents (including but not limited consulting contracts, federal subawards, leases, MOUs, consents and waivers);
  • Assist with internal compliance with contractual, legal and ethical obligations (including but not limited to procurement, data privacy and security, consent, labor and employment, conflict of interest, lobbying, corporate governance etc.);
  • Assist in the development and updates of internal policies;
  • Research and respond to legal questions as they arise;
  • Support HR team in responding to various personnel matters; and
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.

Qualifications: An ideal candidate will have:
  • A J.D. degree from an ABA accredited U.S. law school;
  • Admitted to practice law in New York;
  • At least 4 years of working experience as a practicing attorney, with at least one year of in-house experience (for-profit or nonprofit) strongly preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience in the areas of commercial real estate, labor and employment, or data privacy and security preferred;
  • Experience in public interest or non-profit sphere a plus;
  • Excellent judgment and discretion, especially regarding confidential and sensitive matters;
  • Strong research and analysis skills;
  • Superior written and oral communication skills; and
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
