Miami Dade College is now accepting applications for Assistant General Counsel. The Assistant General Counsel provides legal services College-wide as assigned by the General Counsel and provides support to the Legal Affairs department.

What you will be doing:
  • Reviews, negotiates, and drafts contracts, leases and lease purchase agreements, memorandums and articulation agreements, and other written instruments.
  • Drafts, maintains, and updates college-wide contract templates as needed or as required by law.
  • Drafts legal documents and memoranda in collaboration with College administrators.
  • Receives, reviews, and tracks inquiries regarding contracts, memorandums, agreements, and other legal matters pertaining to the operation of the College.
  • Performs legal research, provides legal opinions, and such other assignments as directed by the General Counsel.
  • Utilizes dedicated contract management systems to streamline contract review processes.
  • Leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and assisted platforms to perform essential duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to reviewing, analyzing, drafting of legal instruments in compliance with Florida Bar regulations and ethical guidelines regarding AI use in the legal practice.
  • Provides a high level of professional legal service by representing and advising College on a broad range of legal areas of a nature and volume consistent with that expected within a large, metropolitan, public educational institution.
  • Works with outside counsel as required in order to resolve legal assignments.
  • Works with College's Human Resources department to guide and manage internal investigations regarding employee or student complaints, including those originating from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Office of Civil Rights (OCR), and the Florida Commission on Human Relations (FCHR), and the resolution of employee issues as assigned by the General Counsel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Succeed:
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and possess membership in good standing with the Florida Bar with a minimum of five (5) years of legal experience as a licensed attorney.
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.
