We are seeking a newly licensed attorney or recent law school graduate to join our team as an Assistant General Counsel. The position will assist in overseeing legal matters for Credit Management Services, a Grand Island, Nebraska based account recovery agency, with focus on compliance with all federal, state and local laws. Our firm is committed to ethical collections, regulatory compliance, and developing attorneys through hands on experience and mentorship.Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in monitoring and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and state collection laws.
- Represent the agency in legal proceedings, in regulatory matters and the resolution of legal issues under the guidance of experience in house counsel.
- Advance legal collection files by reviewing, editing and filing legal pleadings; monitoring both pre-judgment and post-judgment collection efforts; negotiating settlements, attending hearings and trials.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in Nebraska, or will eligible for licensure in 2026.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills, strong computer proficiency, and attention to detail.
- Well organized, motivated self-starter eager to develop legal, analytical, and professional skills while working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
