About the Team:The U.S. Industries Go-To-Market (GTM) Legal Team supports Workday's healthcare and financial services and insurance businesses on a wide range of issues, from contracts and legal strategy to compliance and risk management. We help our business partners navigate the complex legal and contracting landscape and ensure they are operating in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The team provides legal advice and support to help Workday achieve their goals. We partner with the broader Workday legal team and other cross-functional teams to drive growth, improve customer experience and scale on our path to $10 billion in revenue.

The Assistant General Counsel, U.S. Industries, will drive optimization of our overall GTM Legal strategy, oversee the development and delivery of legal terms that provide customer focused solutions, and enable our strategic innovation and revenue growth objectives. This role will lead cross functional initiatives which align to our GTM strategy and support our strategic growth initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional judgment and business insight. They will be comfortable, effective, and persuasive in dealing with customers, partners, senior management, business and legal partners. You Will:
- Learn about Workday's product portfolio and how product differences impact contract negotiations.
- Serve as trusted legal advisor to the business on a wide range of business and legal issues.
- Identify, assess, and manage legal risk.
- Lead high value SaaS and professional services transactions, including related order form, SOW, data processing, security, SLA, BAA and AI terms.
- Provide support for RFP responses.
- Support customer migrations to new Universal MSA, and other customer base matters, including disputes, M&A, assignments, and add-on subscriptions.
- Collaborate with leaders across the sales organization to support strategic growth initiatives.
- Innovate and operationalize the legal approach and legal strategy Healthcare and new types of strategic relationships.
- Provide proactive strategic advice and guidance to internal teams regarding business and legal issues and risks.
- Assist in implementing legal efficiencies to support the Healthcare business unit and improve our contract processes and operations in that segment.
- Help build and improve contract templates and negotiation playbooks and provide internal training Healthcare sales, services operations, contract operations, and the broader GTM legal team on how we can create a streamlined contract experience.
- Partner effectively with deal operations, sales, finance, revenue recognition, risk management, product legal, privacy, security, and contracts operations, as well as managing external legal counsel as required.
About You:
Basic Qualifications:
- J.D. Degree and membership in at least one U.S. State bar
- 15+ years of experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm or in-house legal department
- 10+ years of specific experience supporting and negotiating in (or with) regulated industries, preferably healthcare, financial services and insurance
- Deep experience supporting customer-facing transactions, preferably with enterprise software/SaaS, professional services, Business Associate and AI transaction experience
- CIPP/E Certification and/or deep understanding of complex global data privacy and security laws and principles
