The Requirements:
As an Assistant General Counsel, you will play a key role in supporting our OGC by providing proactive legal guidance on conflicts, ethics, and risk management. Your attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work collaboratively will be essential to your success in this role. You will work closely with attorneys, conflicts analysts, and firm staff, contributing to process improvements and firmwide risk education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conflicts Review and Clearance: Analyze conflicts reports, draft compliant waiver letters, and ensure timely resolution while staying current with relevant laws.
  • New Client Intake and Disengagement: Draft engagement letters, review client agreements, and support disengagement processes.
  • Lateral Integration: Manage conflicts for incoming lateral attorneys, draft client engagement documents, and facilitate smooth client transitions.
  • Risk Management: Assist with claims reporting, firm trainings, and collection efforts, including drafting demand letters.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience with demonstrated knowledge of professional conduct rules, particularly conflicts of interest, preferably in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, or California.
  • Active bar admission in good standing in at least one state where the firm operates (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, or California preferred).
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong team player who enjoys collaborating and sharing knowledge.
  • Experience in a full-service law firm and proficiency with Intapp Conflicts and Risk software strongly preferred.

The Location:
This is a hybrid position. When working onsite in our physical office, this position will work out of our offices located in a neighborhood with a vibrant, energetic streetscape. Located in the 11W building (1140 SW Washington Street) in downtown Portland, our offices reside in a recently completed 25-story mixed-use tower with curated ground-floor retail and underground parking. The property is a member of the West End Security District, which provides the neighborhood with highly effective private security and cleaning services.
