Job Summary:We are seeking a skilled, enthusiastic and detail-oriented Assistant General Counsel-Labor and Employment in our Legal & Compliance Department. This remote role will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to the parent company and all subsidiaries, with a particular focus on labor and employment matters, employee relations and other corporate initiatives. We are looking for a motivated attorney who can effectively navigate complex labor and employment challenges while safeguarding the interests of our company and employees.

Responsibilities:
- Provide advice, strategic and transactional support from a legal and compliance perspective to employee benefits, employee relations and other labor and employment matters, and serve as the primary legal point of contract for such matters.
- Identify potential legal risks and/or impact to existing businesses, as appropriate
- Advise business unit leadership on ramifications of those risks and potential strategies to mitigate risks
- Understand the business objectives of the company, and provide legal support and counsel to achieve those objectives
- Review statutes, regulations and other areas to take advantage of best practices consistent with company compliance philosophy
- Align legal support and counsel with the business objectives of the company, ensuring fair and compliant labor practices across multiple jurisdictions
- Keep informed regarding pending legal changes, trends, and best practices and assess the potential impact of these changes on organizational processes
- Negotiate, review, revise, and draft commercial contracts; advise business on implications and risk considerations of the same
- Develop and maintain excellent business relationships with all internal and external business partners
- Stay apprised on applicable labor laws and current and emerging industry trends
- Advise ESG workgroup on legal and compliance considerations
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Active membership in the state bar in good standing
- Minimum of 8 years of experience providing legal counsel on employment/labor and benefits issues and contractual issues in a law firm or corporate legal department
- Experience that demonstrates expert knowledge of applicable federal and state regulatory requirements, the insurance industry, and functions of a Legal and Compliance Department
- Effective leadership skills and a passion for collaborating with wide range of people in a diverse and inclusive environment to achieve legal, compliance, and business goals with confidence and initiative
- Sound judgement and diligent in handling sensitive information
- Detailed oriented with commitment to thoroughness and accuracy in legal work product and advice
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with immigration laws and work visa process
- Experience with Canada employment related matters
- Experience in negotiating commercial contracts
