General Summary of the Purpose of the Position
This position will work closely with the Chief Legal Officer and key business leaders of the company and will have responsibility for providing general legal support to the company with an emphasis on litigation management to support the company's long-term business strategy. This position supports leadership and functional roles within the company and reports to the Chief Legal Officer.

Approach and Deployment (What to Do & How to Do It)
  • Provide legal support for all aspects of the company's litigation including business litigation and employment litigation. Legal support includes responding to small claims, district court and arbitration matters involving the company and its subsidiaries. Work closely with the operations team on responding, answering and preparing for various forms of litigation against or by the company including discovery, motion practice and resolution.
  • Work on customer dispute matters with the aim to achieve early resolution to support the company's goals including proper documentation and resolution.
  • Appear in court to resolve litigation matters (mostly small claims) where appropriate.
  • Obtain customer releases where appropriate with the goal to mitigate the company's risk. Provide general advice to the company's stakeholders regarding legal rights and obligations.
  • Support and engage with the company's functional departments (IT, HR, Finance, Operations, Procurement) to support their needs including general contract review and advice.
  • Provide guidance regarding legal compliance as necessary. Training and cross-functional support as needed.
  • Engage various business functions and provide effective counsel in support of business goals including the preparation of appropriate legal agreements.
  • Work with and manage outside counsel on significant litigation and other matters.
  • Work cooperatively with various business functions as a business partner to their legal requirements.
  • Work with other members of the Legal Department to develop bandwidth and cross-functional knowledge.
  • Perform legal research as needed.
  • Support the legal department and functional department on miscellaneous tasks as requested from time to time.
  • Support corporate health and safety objectives.
  • Handle other essential duties as assigned.

Job Requirements (Knowledge, skills and abilities for performance of essential duties)
Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university.
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota (admitted in GA, FL or TX a plus)

Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience required and the willingness to develop a high level of competence in various functions supported by this role.

Knowledge:
Business acumen and the ability to provide legal advice in the context of strategic business initiatives and goals.

Hybrid. Mostly work from home. Occasionally meet in the office. Limited travel requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, and is required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, and walk occasionally for long periods at a time. The employee may occasionally be required to reach with hands, arms and move objects up to 50 pounds.
