Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
This is a full-time attorney position. Attorney is responsible for enforcing and collecting child and spousal support orders issued in Douglas County domestic cases. Duties also include reviewing and modifying child support orders; meeting with pro se litigants or retained counsel regarding child support or spousal support related issues; preparing discovery requests, pleadings, child support worksheets and preparing cases for and attending weekly trial docket. The attorney must maintain a working relationship with paralegals and court staff and must be able to calmly work with diverse members of the public in routine and difficult situations.

Required Qualifications:
Must be an attorney in good standing and licensed to practice law in Kansas. Applicant must possess a thorough knowledge of domestic law issues, specifically in support matters; have knowledge of judicial procedures and the rules of evidence and the Kansas Child Support Guidelines; excellent legal research, writing, analytic and communication skills and excellent customer service skills with a desire to serve the public. 2 years of litigation experience in domestic law or 2 years support enforcement experience is preferred.

Starting Date: October 12, 2026, or as soon thereafter as practical.

Location of Employment: Office of the Douglas County District Court Trustee, 111 East 11th Street, Unit 101, Lawrence, KS 66044

Starting Salary Range: $81,097 to $89,426 depending on experience, with benefits and health insurance through Douglas County and the Kansas Personnel Retirement System. This is a County funded Court position but subject to the State of Kansas Judicial Branch Personnel Rules.
