Overview:The Assistant District Attorney plays a vital role in the prosecution of criminal cases and the enforcement of laws within the jurisdiction. This position requires a dedicated legal professional who is skilled in criminal law. Responsibilities:
- Prosecute criminal cases in court, representing the state or municipality.
- Conduct legal research using tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw to prepare for cases.
- Draft legal documents, including motions, briefs, and pleadings.
- Negotiate plea deals and settlements with defendants and their attorneys.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to gather evidence and build cases.
- Provide legal advice to government officials on various matters, including landlord-tenant law and workers' compensation law.
- Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations affecting the district attorney's office.
- Confer with Victims and ensure Victims' Rights law are complied with.
- Engage with tribal law & regulations when applicable.
Experience:
Candidates should have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Previous experience in a law office or as a practicing attorney is preferred. The following skills are essential for success in this role:
