Position Summary:
This Assistant District Attorney position is a full-time position to be filled in the District Attorney's office for Columbia County, located in Portage, WI. This is a State position in the unclassified service.

Columbia County has a population slightly over 58,000 people and is located just north of Dane County. Working in a smaller county gives you many perks, such as free parking in a secured lot, the opportunity to get to know all of the law enforcement officers in the county on a first name basis, and the opportunity to handle many different types of court hearings every day – from initial appearances and motion hearings to court trials and jury trials.

The Columbia County District Attorney's Office consists of the District Attorney and six full-time Assistant District Attorneys. In addition, there are six support staff and two full-time victim-witness coordinators. Columbia County utilizes a vertical prosecution model, where prosecutors primarily charge their own cases and follow those cases to completion. In addition to criminal and civil traffic matters, the office handles CHIPS, Guardianship, and TPR cases. The Attorney hired to fill this position will be given the opportunity to handle a variety of cases, including felonies.

Salary Information:
The starting salary for the position will be $80,267 annually ($38.59 per hour).

Job Details:
Attorneys who are currently employed by the State of Wisconsin are invited to apply and may be able to transfer at their current pay rate. Attorneys who have left the position of Wisconsin elected District Attorney or Assistant District Attorney within the last five years may be able to be hired at a wage rate above the minimum.

Qualifications:
Only attorneys who have been admitted to practice law in the State of Wisconsin may be hired.
