Description:
Position Summary:This Assistant District Attorney position is a full-time position to be filled in the District Attorney's Office for Marinette County located in Marinette, Wisconsin. This is a State position in the unclassified service.
Marinette County is located approximately 50 minutes north of Green Bay and has a population of a little over 40,000 people. The County Seat is the City of Marinette, which is situated on the Bay of Green Bay and is also contiguous to Menominee, Michigan. Marinette County is known as the “Waterfalls Capital of Wisconsin.” It is a recreational paradise and offers many opportunities for hunting, fishing, ATV-ing, hiking, and boating (both on the bay and on many inland lakes and rivers). However, since it is not far from Green Bay and the Fox Valley, it provides easy access to the amenities of a larger city while living in a smaller community with a high quality of life. Also, the tri-cities of Marinette, Peshtigo, and Menominee, Michigan are experiencing a great deal of growth due to Marinette Marine being awarded a large contract to build Navy and Coast Guard vessels.
The Marinette County District Attorney's Office consists of the District Attorney, two full-time Assistant District Attorneys, and one half-time Assistant District Attorney. There are two legal secretaries, an administrative specialist, a victim-witness coordinator, and a diversion coordinator. The Marinette County District Attorney's Office utilizes a vertical prosecution model where prosecutors charge their own cases and follow those cases to completion. In addition to criminal prosecutions and civil traffic matters, our office also handles CHIPS matters. Assistant district attorneys will get to handle a wide variety of cases and issues on a daily basis. Our office is a stimulating, collegial work environment where professional growth of the attorneys is a high priority.
Marinette County has 2 circuit court judges and 1 full-time court commissioner. Marinette County has a treatment drug court, and our office has a robust diversion program for lower-risk defendants. Also, our county law enforcement agencies are active and engaged, and our attorneys get to work closely with the officers and deputies, including conducting regular trainings for our local law enforcement agencies.
