Description:
Summary:The Assistant County Attorney – Felony Division prepares cases for prosecution from intake through jury trial and performs other legal functions as assigned. Responsibilities include reviewing law enforcement case files, presenting cases to the Grand Jury, representing the State in felony, misdemeanor, and civil matters, and conducting witness interviews, legal research, and evidence examination.
Organizational Relationships This position reports directly to the First Assistant County Attorney.
Essential Duties:
Represent the County in prosecution of misdemeanor, felony, and civil cases before District and County courts. Review files submitted by law enforcement agencies and make filing decisions. Present cases to the Grand Jury for indictment. Represent the State in District Courts and County Courts at Law, including pretrial hearings, motions to adjudicate guilt, motions to revoke probation, and bench or jury trials. Interview witnesses, examine physical evidence, and research legal issues. Work late as needed when court remains in session. Perform other related legal duties as assigned.
Other Requirements Regular attendance is essential.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of legal principles;
Texas criminal laws and other state laws; regulations and legal precedents; pleading practices; and effective courtroom presentation techniques. Skill/Ability to interpret complex statutes, constitutional provisions, regulations, and legal precedents; interact tactfully with others; establish and maintain effective working relationships with legal professionals, law enforcement agencies, coworkers, and the general public; maintain necessary certifications.
Acceptable Experience and Training -J.D. degree from an accredited college or university.
Certificates and Licenses Required - Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Texas by the State Bar of Texas.
Physical Demands require walking, sitting, standing, bending, and stooping. May be required to lift, carry, or push/pull items weighing up to 20 pounds. Work is primarily indoors.
