Job Summary:
This is an in-house position for an experienced attorney with five to seven years of experience who will provide legal counsel and strategic support to the health system with a primary focus on physician and advanced practice provider (APP) contracting; healthcare transactions; and provider compensation arrangements. Reporting directly to the General Counsel; the Assistant General Counsel will work collaboratively and respectfully across departments to anticipate; identify; and manage legal risk; and support Hendrick Health's physician enterprise and growth initiatives. The Assistant General Counsel will be instrumental in keeping day-to-day operations and transactions moving quickly while protecting Hendrick Health.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership

Minimum work experience:
Attorney with 5-7 years of relevant experience with healthcare law; with significant experience in physician contracting and provider compensation in a law firm or in-house legal department

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Experience with physician transactions in the healthcare industry preferred
  • Experience drafting; reviewing; and negotiating; and interpreting physician employment agreements; professional services agreements; medical director agreements; call coverage agreements; recruitment agreements; and independent contractor arrangements
  • Provide legal guidance on provider compensation models; including productivity-based; value-based; and incentive compensation arrangements Assist with internal investigations; audits; and regulatory inquiries related to provider relationships
  • Provide education and training to leadership and internal stakeholders on physician contracting; compensation; and regulatory compliance
  • Handle ad-hoc projects across a spectrum of complex business; legal; and strategic issues
  • Knowledge of healthcare fraud and abuse laws; rules; regulations; regulatory guidance; and industry codes; including the federal Anti-Kickback Statute and False Claims Act preferred
  • Able to quickly understand the business' needs; work effectively with business teams and other members of our department to craft solutions; and efficiently deliver results
  • Excellent communication; drafting; and negotiation skills
