Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have been admitted to the New York State Bar and must have had two years of experience in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar.

Duties Description
Reporting to an Associate Counsel for Litigation and Compliance, the Assistant Counsel will be primarily responsible for managing a portion of A State Agency's administrative hearings matters and assist with follow-up actions in Supreme Court related to enforcing A State Agency orders.
  • In collaboration with A State Agency's Enforcement Unit, the incumbent will prepare for judicial or administrative proceedings by reviewing cases involving licensed and unlicensed businesses, discussing strategy, coordinating investigations, examining case folders, conferring with program officials, preparing complaints and legal memoranda, and issuing subpoenas.
  • Prepare and present cases at proceedings by preparing opening statements and summations, arguing motions, examining witnesses, consulting with parties to the proceeding, examining evidence, preparing briefs, negotiating settlement, preparing appeals, and advising superiors.
  • Review, analyze, and comment on amendments to regulations pertaining to compliance, enforcement, and administrative hearings related thereto.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as required.
