The New York City Law Department is accepting applications from highly experienced attorneys for a position in our Executive Litigation and Policy Group which is part of our Executive Division. Successful applicants should be highly motivated and focused upon the important mission of the unit, as described below.Members of this unit perform both counseling and litigation functions in relation to matters with potentially significant revenue or other programmatic implications for the City of New York and its related entities, including matters related to grants or other regulatory or enforcement initiatives originating at the federal level. These functions include coordination and tracking of City entity interactions with state and federal governmental counterparts, advice to City agencies concerning such interactions, and interactions with other governmental and non-governmental stakeholders. Functions also include commencement and defense of litigation related to matters within the purview of the unit.

Minimum Qualifications:
The attorney in this role should possess experience in, and commitment to, successfully leading a litigation team in handling challenging matters, as well as independently managing a caseload. Candidates should be creative problem-solvers, possess excellent legal writing and analysis skills and be able to communicate legal positions to clients and others effectively in both litigation and non-litigation contexts. Prior experience with affirmative litigation including a focus on complaint drafting, as well as government experience is preferred. Applicants must be admitted and in good standing in New York State and have at least 8 years of litigation experience. They must be admitted or eligible for immediate admission to the SDNY and EDNY.
