Description:The City of Chicago Department of Law is seeking an attorney for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel (“ACC”) in the Aviation, Environmental, Regulatory & Contracts Division (“AERC”) Division. AERC handles a wide range of transactional, regulatory, and litigation matters in areas such as aviation, procurement, public utilities, intellectual property, data sharing, and environmental protection.
This ACC, working under the general supervision of the Deputy Corporation Counsel, Chief Assistant Corporation Counsel, and Supervising ACCs, will represent and counsel the Chicago Department of Aviation (“CDA”) regarding a wide range of transactional, and regulatory matters related to O'Hare and Midway International Airports. They will also be responsible for administrative and enforcement proceedings at CDA, and may also be required to assist with litigation and prelitigation dispute resolution. This ACC will be required to attend in-person client meetings or hearings onsite at the City's airports and other locations, and may be required to assist in the other practice areas, as needed to support operations.
This position involves considerable research, writing, and collaboration with colleagues, and requires creativity, flexibility, and a willingness and ability to learn complex statutory and regulatory frameworks, as well as a genuine enthusiasm for tackling challenging legal matters.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ideal candidates will possess the following:
- Demonstrated academic achievement;
- Demonstrated interest in aviation, logistics, transportation, or related industries; or in non-residential commercial real estate; or in municipal finance.
- Legal experience and ability to litigate in court and/or administrative tribunals;
- Legal experience handling transactional matters, including reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts;
- Legal experience analyzing proposed transactions for compliance with the law;
- Legal experience with the complex statutory and regulatory frameworks for various contracts;
- Legal experience researching, analyzing, drafting and/or reviewing legislation, proposed legislation, and rules/regulations;
- Excellent analytical and communication skills;
- Superior writing, researching and editing skills;
- Exceptional client counseling skills;
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and control workflow deadlines;
- Ability to work well with others; and
- Demonstrated leadership and initiative on assigned tasks.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree
- Admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligible for admission on motion to the Illinois Bar pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705), good standing with your state Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission
- Or, if applicable, intent to take the bar exam to obtain required Illinois Licensure indicated in cover letter.

Salary: $81,816.00 - 142,776.00 (salary is based on a variety of factors including experience and credentials)
