Nature of Work:The purpose of this job is to provide legal services on issues and projects of importance to the City. Depending on assigned area(s), this job may involve litigation, municipal affairs and/or ordinance enforcement. Position will involve an introductory level of autonomy and depth of knowledge, with increased skill and expertise over time.
There is currently one opening within the General Civil Litigation Division. A brief description of each is below.
Examples of work in the Civil Litigation Division:
- Acts as trial and appellate co-counsel handling litigation duties.
- Assists with investigation and processing of personal injury, workers compensation, contract, civil rights and property.
- Assists with complex tax petitions and litigation.
- Collaboration on Department of Law projects and initiatives.

Minimum Training and Experience:
Required Education and Experience:
- Juris Doctorate
- -And--
- Zero (0) to three (3) years of experience as a licensed attorney
- -Or--
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Required licenses or certifications:
Licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan, or licensed in another state with the ability to become licensed within a reasonable time
