The City and Borough of Juneau Law Department is seeking an attorney to join its criminal prosecution team.

What You'll Do:
The Assistant Attorney I/II is primarily dedicated to criminal prosecution, handling misdemeanor offenses including driving under the influence, larceny, assault, code enforcement, and other municipal crimes. From arraignments through jury trials, this position manages an independent caseload alongside another Assistant Attorney, appears regularly in court, and works closely with the Juneau Police Department and other justice partners to promote public safety.

  • Managing an Independent Caseload from Arraignment Through Trial and Appeal.
  • Appearing Regularly in Court for Hearings, Sentencings, and Trials.
  • Conducting Legal Research and Drafting Motions and Briefs.
  • Working Closely with Law Enforcement, Victims, Witnesses, and The Courts.
  • Participating in Any Court-Directed Program Such as The Coordinated Resources Project (crp).
  • Sharing Rotating On-Call Responsibilities for Weekend Arraignments and Other Urgent Legal Matters.

Assistant Attorney I - Range 322 ($120,515.20 Annually)

Education: Juris Doctorate Required
Experience: Experience as A Legal Intern or Clerk Is Preferred.
Other: Must Be Licensed to Practice Law in The State of Alaska and Be a Member in Good Standing of The Alaska Bar.

Assistant Attorney Ii - Range 324 ($137,342.40 Annually)

Education: Juris Doctorate Required
Experience: Four (4) Years of Professional Level Legal Experience as An Attorney; Is Preferred.
Other: Must Be Licensed to Practice Law in The State of Alaska and Be a Member in Good Standing of The Alaska Bar.
